New Egypt, NJ (Sept. 22) -- With the championship point battles in the books, New Egypt Speedway is gearing up for two special events that will complete the track's successful third season under the Grosso family banner.
On Saturday night, September 30, the popular URC Sprint cars will wing their way around the 4/10ths mile oval, in the club's much-awaited final appearance of 2000. Modifieds, Sportsman and Street Stocks round out the action-jammed racing card which will see first flag fly at 5 pm.
The Central Jersey speedway will be dark on October 7, but will host a racing flea market on Sunday, the 8th, with set-up at 8 am and kick-off at 9.
Racing action returns on Saturday, October 14, with a promotion for the memory books. New Egypt's second annual Legends of the Fall season finale will honor the sport's former driving greats, including Frankie Schneider, Gil Hearne, Sammy Beavers, Tony Siscone, Glen Fitzcharles, Parker Bohn, Bobby Bottcher and more than 20 other stock car stars of years gone by. The day-long Legends of the Fall tribute will feature interview and autograph sessions and an exhibition of beautifully restored race cars by the Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club. Warren Ruffner, the famed "Voice of Reading," is scheduled to sit in with track announcers Nick Leach and Pete Wortman, to recreate some of the old memories from bygone races and raceways.
On the track, there's a big tripleheader bill of up-to-the-minute racing action, with a 50-lapper for the big-block Modifieds paying a cool $5,000 to win; Sportsman will race 40 laps for a $2,000 top prize, and the winner of the Street Stock 30-lap feature will collect $1,000. Mod and Sportsman competitors can run any brand 13x92-inch tire; Sportsman must have steel wheels. New Egypt engine rules apply, and NES/DIRT/Dual Track body rules with no high sail panels for Mod and Sportsman cars. Street Stocks will race under NES rules and must have a 4412 Holley or any OEM two-barrel carburetor, 10-inch wheels and any brand 92-inch max. tire. The same rules apply on September 30.
As part of its "Good Neighbor" policy, New Egypt will honor any pit license for these last two shows of the season.
The not-to-be-missed October 14 Legends of the Fall special has a 2:30 pm starting time and a Sunday raindate. For more information, call (609) 758-1900.
