Pauch Scores Win #4 At New Egypt Speedway

New Egypt, NJ (May 15) -- In an exciting 30 lap Modified feature event, Frenchtown, NJ's Billy Pauch captured his fourth win of the season at the New Egypt Speedway on Saturday night.

"We were kind of lucky there when Tom (Hager) broke -- he was running good. I don't know if we could have gotten him," Pauch told the crowd from Victory Lane.

Hager took charge at the drop of the green as Pauch made his way through the field from his 18th starting spot. Hager looked to have a strong hold on the lead when he suddenly stopped on the track and retired to the pits. Last week's winner, Roger Laureno, was now riding second and appeared headed for a top finish when he rode up over the wheel of another car and brought out the yellow before the half-way flags. Pauch was now leading Kenny Brightbill and within several circuits was approaching lapped traffic. Pauch was up to the challenge on several restarts as he continued to open a lead en route to the checkered flag. Completing the top five behind Pauch were Brightbill, Tim Tanner Jr., Tim Tanner Sr. and Eddie Bohn.

Bordentown, NJ's George Gareis broke a 15-year win drought with a final lap move on Keith Brightbill to retake the lead and score his career first Sportsman win in a wild 15 lap main event. "It feels great. They say the first one is the hardest to get and I proved it," said Gareis, who swept the night with a win in his heat. Brightbill, Larry Archer, Bob Worthington and Rich Scagliotta followed Gareis to the line in the feature.

Kenny Hammond of Old Bridge, NJ, captured his first ever Street Stock checkered flag, coming from fifth to the front in quick fashion in the 15 lap feature. Chasing Hammond to the line were Bruce Leote, Richie Byrne, Bill Bauma and Steve Mongiello.

Points leader Scott Reid made it two straight and three on the season, winning the Rookie Sportsman main event. Trailing Reid at the checkers were Tom Tomasko, John Dixon, Tim Burke and Darren Cox.

The nightly 50/50 drawing was worth $1,225 to one lucky spectator, and one Carol Whitehouse fan won $150 in Mid-State Communications' "Ride Along" Dash contest. Mark Bitner took the Modified Cash Dash.

Next Saturday night, May 22, Herr's Snack Foods sponsors an action-filled program of Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks and Rookie Sportsman. Gates open at 3:30 p.m. with warm-ups at 5 and the first heat at 6. Adult admission is $12, children 7-12 are $4, 6 and under are free.
