Brightbill & Pauch Excite Fans at New Egypt Speedway New Egypt, NJ (May 1) -- In a thrilling 30 lap Modified feature that went down to the wire, Sinking Spring, PA's Kenny Brightbill scored his second win of the season Saturday night at New Egypt Speedway. Brightbill fought off the persistent challenges of three-time winner Billy Pauch to take the hard-fought victory.
"I just wanted to make sure everything was all right," said Brightbill, who ducked into the pits post-race before returning to Victory Lane. "I'd just like to thank all of my sponsors."
Tom Hager took charge of the field until he was involved in an early race caution, and Fritz Epright moved out front on the restart. Epright remained on top until Brightbill made an inside run off the fourth turn on lap 11 to put the #19 out front. Pauch then made his way through traffic to advance to second, setting his sights on the leader. Brightbill and Pauch raced through heavy backmarkers with Brightbill able to hold off a hellbent Pauch for the win. Trailing the top two at the checker were Fritz Epright, Roger Laureno and Tim Tanner Sr. Pauch won the Mid-State Communications Dash for Cash, which paid $350.
Making the move up to the Sportsman ranks after enjoying success in Street Stocks, Hamilton Square, NJ's Rocco Infante scored his career first Sportsman win in exciting fashion. Infante used the top groove to come from 11th to the front at the halfway mark, then opened up a sizable lead en route to the checker. Completing the top five were Bob Worthington, Larry Archer, Ron John Koczon and Jack Swain.
Allentown, NJ's Pat Freiberger made it two straight as he came from 17th starting spot to the lead on lap 13. Trailing Freiberger at the finish were Billy Bauer, Mick Search, Pat Conaway and Richie Byrne.
Chuck Flesch of Hamilton, NJ, scored his career first Rookie Sportsman win. Tom Tomasko, Scott Reid, John Dixon and John Scheideler rounded out the front five.
A total of 122 cars competed in the night's events. Pit Stop Tire Service presented all feature winners with McCreary jackets. One lucky fan collected $1,828 in the nightly 50/50 drawing.
Next Saturday night, May 8, the exciting URC Sprint cars willl invade New Egypt with the Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks and Rookie Sportsman also on the evening's schedule.Gates open at 3 p.m. with warm-ups at 4:30 and first heat at 5:30. Adult admission is $18, children 7-12 are $6, 6 and under are free.
