Brightbill Makes It Three Straight At New Egypt

New Egypt, NJ (June 5) - Coming from 17th starting spot, Sinking Spring, PA's Kenny Brightbill moved in front in the early going of the 30 lap Modified feature and remained on top to post his fifth win of the season at New Egypt Speedway on Saturday night.

"I've got to thank the guys on the crew -- they do the work that gets us down here," Brightbill informed from Victory Lane. "The track is in really good shape, it's got a real good bite. You couldn't ask for anything better."

Rick Cozze led the charge at the start with Rich Polenz giving chase. Brightbill began to make his move to the front; on a lap 8 restart, his outside run in turn one put him in control. As he began to distance the field, Billy Pauch took over third and looked to challenge Cozze for the runner-up spot. Lap after lap they battled, with the leader continuing to build on his advantage. On lap 22, Cozze's mount suddenly slowed coming off turn #2 and made its way to the pits, moving Pauch into second. Although Brightbill got the jump on the green, Pauch continued to close the gap until a caution with two to go brought the field together for a final shootout. Brightbill was up to the challenge as he raced to his third straight victory. Chasing him to the checkered flag was Pauch, Roger Laureno, Fritz Epright and Tim Tanner Jr.

West Creek, NJ's Tom Eppolite Jr. took advantage of a last lap restart to make an inside run on leader Joe Sarvis to move out front on the final turn and post his career first Sportsman division win. "I gotta give Joe (Sarvis) credit -- he was fast the whole race. I didn't think I'd have enough time," the excited driver said. Trailing the top two at the finish were Keith Brightbill, Ron John Koczon and Rocco Infante.

Brick, NJ's George Quinlan, starting 10th, grabbed the lead from Mike Nixon just past the halfway flags and remained on top to the checker for his first Street Stock feature win. Nixon chased the first-year driver to the finish line with Bill Bauma third, Richie Byrne fourth and Al Cheney III fifth.

In the 15 lap Rookie Championship main that was decided on the final turn of the final lap, Freehold, NJ's Scott Reid scored his sixth win when he raced past the front-running cars of Pat McBride and Lewie Parker who tangled while battling for the win. "It was something else. The last five laps I didn't know what was going to go on. I just waited it out and ended up on top," commented the newly crowned '99 Rookie Champion.

The nightly 50/50 drawing paid $1,813.50 to one lucky spectator. The Modified Dash for Cash, paying $365, was won by Kenny Brightbill.

Next Saturday night, June 12, it's Mid-State Communications Night as the Modifieds headline the evening's race events, joined by the Sportsman and Street Stocks. Gates open at 4 pm with warm-ups at 5:45 and the first heat at 6:30. Adult admission is $12, children 7-12 are $4, 6 and under are free.
