Legends Reunite For New Egypt Fall Finale
New Egypt, NJ (Oct. 7) -- Driving greats from the '50s, '60s, '70s and '80s will be the honored guests at New Egypt Speedway's Legends of the Fall season finale, a tribute to regional auto racing's colorful history, on Saturday afternoon, October 16. The program, which commences at 2 p.m., will also feature today's top drivers in a tripleheader card with big prize money on the line.
More than 30 legendary racing heroes are scheduled to attend, including 1952 NASCAR national champion Frankie Schneider; multi-time East Windsor and Flemington dirt Modified champs Stan Ploski and Sammy Beavers; Orange County Mod titleholder and Syracuse winner Billy Osmun; Wall Stadium's all-time leading asphalt Modified feature winner Gil Hearne; modern-day pavement stars Tony Siscone and John Blewett Jr.; many-time Wall Stadium Modified king Parker Bohn; crossover dirt/asphalt champs Bob Rossell, Don Stives and Dusty Malsbury; former Nazareth Raceway top dogs Bob Pickell and Johnny Haroll; and '70s Wall champion Joe Severage, among others.
The afternoon of nostalgia will feature interviews with yesterday's star drivers, led by racing historian Earl Krause, and an exhibition of beautifully restored race cars by the Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club. The legend drivers will also sign limited edition collectible autograph cards for the fans. In addition, the first 200 children through the gates will receive pumpkins courtesy of Van Gorder Racing and Peterson's Nursery.
On the track, the big block Modifieds will go at it in a 50-lap feature paying a hefty $5,000 to win; Sportsman cars will race 40 laps for a $2,000 top prize; and the winner of the Street Stock 30-lap main will collect $1,000. Drivers will draw for starting positions in both the qualifying heats and feature. There is no entry fee for the event, and an open 92-inch tire rule will be in effect.
Don't miss a day made for memories on October 16. Gates open at 11 a.m. for the Legends of the Fall special; there is a Sunday raindate. Adult admission is $18, children 7-12 are $6, and kids 6 and under will be admitted free. Call the New Egypt Speedway office at (609) 758-1900 for further information.
