NCRA Late Models Back-to-Back this Weekend
TOPEKA, Kan. (Aug. 4, 2005) -- As the O'Reilly/NCRA Late Model drivers prepare for Friday's race at the Hutchinson Nationals, they can't overlook a Saturday showdown at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Neb.
This is the second time in five weeks the late model hot shoes have raced at McCool, as Kelly Boen took the win on July 2. It was Boen's third win of the season and the first of back-to-back victories over the Fourth of July weekend.
Despite four wins on the season, Boen has missed a couple of races and is second in points, 248 out of first. NCRA late model rookie Johnny Bone Jr. has used consistency to claim the top spot in the standings. Bone Jr. is still looking for his first win of the season but has seven top 10 finishes out of 11 events. He was fourth last month at McCool.
The veteran Steve Kosiski has been one of the most consistent drivers this year, making 10 of the 11 A features; the previous race at McCool is the only race he has missed this year. Third in points, Kosiski has bagged eight top 10 finishes, with six of them in the top five.
Mike Conkwright has been to every event and it's paid off for him, as he's currently fourth in points. although he only has two top10 finishes.
This might be the weekend two-time defending series champion Al Purkey snags that elusive first win of the season after doing so a half-dozen times last year. Of those six wins, two of them came at Junction Motor Speedway. Currently fifth in points, it would be an opportune time for the win.
