O'Reilly/NCRA Late Models Back in Action this Weekend

TOPEKA, Kan. (June 1, 2005) -- After a rain-out in the second race of the Memorial Day weekend, the O'Reilly/NCRA Late Model Series presented by Hoosier Racing Tires returns to the track with three big nights of racing this weekend.

In the May 27 season opener, Kelly Boen literally ran away from the field at Mid-Nebraska Speedway to record his 10th career NCRA win by a half-lap. Two nights later the series was rained out at I-80 Speedway.

It was the 10th career NCRA win for the Henderson, Colo., pilot and an obviously great way to recover from a disastrous end to last year. After battling with eventual champion Al Purkey for most of the season, Boen finished three of 2004's last four races outside the top 10, including a 21st-place finish, to fade from contention.

The 2005 battle resumes with a two-day show at Dodge City (Kan.) Raceway Park, June 3-4, followed by a June 5 date at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan. Last year's two-day swing to Dodge City saw Purkey and Boen fight to a standoff as they traded victories third place finishes. Boen's win the second night was the first of his three victories last year, all in a row.

Purkey finished sixth at Mid-Nebraska Speedway after being jostled and bumped from second place on an early restart.
