(June 16, 2001 Unity, Maine) -- Ralph Nason of Unity wins the 2001 North East Pro Stock Association season opener at Unity Raceway. A capacity crowd witnessed a great action pack race as Kenny Wright battled Nason several times for the lead. Kenny wasn't able to complete the pass and had to settle for second. Gary Smith of Bangor finished third after starting from the back of the pack several times.
Nason was the fastest in time trials with a time of 15.051. The driver of the 02 car Kenny Wright finished with a time of 15.099. Number 75, Garry Smith fallowed with 15.127. The 51 car of Patrick Thibodeau had the 4th fastest time and Andy Shaw's 66 took fifth with a time of 15.198. Ben Rowe holds the track record of 14.828.
In heat race number one, Ralph Nason took the checkered with Gary Smith second and Andy Shaw taking 3rd. The second heat race was full of action. Kenny Wright was able to keep ahead of the pack to finish first. Matt Lee finished 2nd and the number 38 of Chuck Lachance finished 3rd.
It was 61-year-old Ralph Nason's night sweeping the time trials, heat race and the NEPSA/ Hartley's Chrysler Plymouth 150. The next race in the 2001 season is June 23rd at Autodrome Montmagny.
