American Speed Association Midwest Tour Roster Growing Daily
DAYTONA BEACH, FL -- The American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by Echo Outdoor Power Equipment has over fifty drivers preregistered for full-time competition in the inaugural 2007 season.
"We are very pleased with the support we have been receiving from the Upper Midwest teams. These guys and gals have been waiting for a long time to see a series come back around like ARTGO. It's not just about the car counts, it's about who's inside the cars, the fans, the series sponsors, and making sure the race track is successful," stated series Vice President Steve Einhaus
Drivers of all ages will take to the track together this year. Lane Brenden, a sprint car standout from Mitchell, South Dakota will be turning eighteen on March 26, making him the youngest registrant. Late model racing veteran and Outagamie County police officer Jim Duchow of Appleton, Wisconsin will turn 52 on April 22, making him the most experience of registrants thus far. Collin Bamke will be celebrating his twentieth birthday June 10, making him the only other teen currently on the roster. Seventeen drivers are classified as "twenty-something" and eleven drivers are in their thirties. ASAMT VP Steve Einhaus will be celebrating his fortieth birthday with a bang in September. Other March birthdays include Josh Vadnais (30 on March 7), Mike Tetzlaff (48 on March 10), Brad "JJ" Mueller (38 on March 15), and ASAMT Publicist Natasha Steenbergen (21 on March 26).
Most of the names will be familiar to fans at venues holding ASAMT events, as all applicants at press time were from only five states: Wisconsin, South Dakota, Minnesota, Michigan, and Illinois. Fourteen are from Minnesota and sixteen are from Wisconsin. Trent Snyder is from the farthest north, residing in Ironton, MN (one hour and thirty minutes north of St. Cloud). The driver from the farthest south is David Finney from Sycamore, IL (40 minutes south of Rockford). Brenden comes from the farthest west and Jamie Iverson comes from the farthest east from Escanaba in the upper peninsula of Michigan. The only city recording multiple unrelated registrants is Appleton, WI, home to Duchow and Kyle Calmes.
Playing it by the numbers, the lowest number chosen so far was five, and Travis Sauter, Mark Kraus, and Rod Wheeler have all bid on it. Bryan Roach rounds out the roster with car number 99. The number five has tied with number nine as the most requested number. Benjamin Fine (Richfield, MN), Dean Cornelius (Chaska, MN), and Calmes have all requested car number nine for 2007.
"Our series is designed to incorporate the home track that we are visiting and we realize that there are going to be duplicate numbers. It's costly to have people changing their numbers all of the time so we are not concerned about it at all. Each individual will be required to attach a decal with the first letter of their last name directly behind the number if they have a duplicate. Many drivers have a specific number on their car because it means something to them and that is what we are all about," stated series President Tim Olson.
Thirty-eight of the registrants have listed an e-mail address, and both rookies and veterans are logging on to the Internet for all the latest ASA Midwest Tour news. Many of the drivers also have Website links and biographies on www.asamidwesttour.com.
"The ASA Midwest Tour is in its inaugural year and the excitement is in the air. We have a growing list of the hottest and most successful racers from around the Midwest ready to race in our series. The fans are not only going to see a race, they are going to see an event that they will remember for a long time," Einhaus ended.
The Midwest Tour will have an informational meeting for race teams and media only on Saturday March 17th at the Chula Vista Resort Golf Course Club House and Water Park in Wisconsin Dells, beginning at 4pm. Anyone needing information prior to the meeting is encouraged to call the series office at 262-514-3880.
The ASA Midwest Tour inaugural season opener is scheduled at Elko Speedway April 28, 2007. Along with Duchow, Jason Schneider (New Market, MN) will be celebrating his birthday (38 on May 6) during the Elko race weekend. More information about Elko Speedway is available online at www.goelkospeedway.com or by calling (952) 461-7223.
