ASA MIDWEST TOUR MIS WRAP-UP/NOTES
Wednesday, July 25, 2007 (Daytona Beach, FL) -- With the eighth event of the inaugural season of the ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by Echo Outdoor Power Equipment in the record books, it appears that the Madison International Speedway event could be a turning point for the remaining three races on the schedule.
HILL JOINS LIST OF WINNERS
Brandon Hill became the eighth different winner in eight point events this season. Dan Fredrickson does have two wins, but his win at La Crosse was a non-point paying event. Overall, eight different drivers have won at nine ASAMT events this season.
The winners list includes: Nate Haseleu (Jefferson), Jonathan Eilen (Elko), Kenny Richards (Dells), Jamie Iverson (Norway), Brandon Hill (Madison), Steve Carlson (Hawkeye Downs), Jacob Goede (I-94), and Dan Fredrickson (La Crosse & Grundy).
FEILER CLOSING IN ON REUVERS
Donny Reuvers and Dave Feiler continue to sit at the top of the ASAMT standings, but neither has yet to visit victory lane this season. Is it possible that the inaugural season champion go without a victory?
Feiler's third place finish along with Reuvers' fifth place run at Madison has allowed Feiler to get within 22 points of Reuvers with three events remaining. Reuvers so far has 4 top-five and 6 top-ten finishes in 8 starts while Feiler has 5 top-five and 7 top-ten finishes.
Nate Haseleu currently sits in third, only 31 points behind Reuvers and 9 points behind Feiler. Haseleu has one win, 4 top-five and 5 top-ten finishes. Jonathan Eilen sits in fourth, 85 points behind Reuvers with 1 win, 4 top-five and 5 top-tens, and Kenny Richards rounds out the top-five only 119 points behind. Richards has 1 win, 2 top-five and 5 top-ten finishes.
OH SO CLOSE--
Dick Trickle said on Friday night that his limelight may be going dim, but many would disagree with that assessment. The 65-year-old pilot still has some racing left in him.
Trickle, who has 78 feature wins at MIS, appeared that he was going to qualify into the Echo Chainsaw/Five Star Stock Car Bodies No Bull 100 presented by Briggs and Stratton and Lancaster Toyota on his qualifying time. That was until the last qualifier Jonathan Eilen took his turn on Wisconsin's Fastest Half-Mile Oval.
Trickle's turned in a qualifying time of 18.080 seconds (99.558 mph) and was sitting 16th, the last qualifying position to get into the feature. Eilen came out and qualified with a time of 17.973 seconds (100.150 mph) to lock himself into the main event and knocking Trickle out.
Kenny Richards ended up with the 16th fastest time of 18.058 seconds (99.679 mph). Yes, he beat Trickle by .022 seconds to earn the last starting spot based on qualifying.
He went on to finish 23rd in the 100-lap main event. A total of 35 cars started.
Trickle will be competing at the next event, Factory Motor Parts 150, at Wisconsin International Speedway on Tuesday, August 7th. Trickle is a four-time winner of the famous event that always took place on the first Tuesday in August at WIR. His four wins came in 1983, 1987, 1990, and 1991.
BY THE NUMBERS
So far in eight point events, a total of 132 drivers have earned points in the ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by Echo Outdoor Power Equipment. 102 of those drivers have started a feature event.
20 different drivers have recorded a top-five finish and 33 have recorded a top-ten finish.
4 of the 12 drivers that are registered as Rookies currently sit in the top-ten point standings. Jonathan Eilen sits in fourth with Travis Sauter in sixth. Brian Johnson Jr. is up to eighth while Madison winner, Brandon Hill, is ninth.
