Pablo, MT: At Mission Valley Speedway we have it all! A fantastic backbone of dedicated race fans, a recently renewed racing facility, thrill seeking stock car drivers and the most beautiful backdrop that any racing enthusiast could ask for. The spectacular, snowcapped Rocky Mountains! What a site it was last Saturday night here with the clear blue skies welcoming the 2000 double points season opener at Mission Valley Speedway!

Bob's Auto Mart in Pablo was the trophy sponsor of the evening with presentations being made by the 1999 Trophy Queen, Ms. Chanel Broom. Chanel is the daughter of Brad and Grace Lee of Pablo and is currently a sophomore at Ronan High School. Ms. Broom is also part of Brad's Hobby Stock pit crew when she isn't sporting her trophy queen attire! Steve Altman's 1929 Chevrolet truck, (1999's trophy truck of the year), was on hand to drive Ms. Broom to the winners circle for trophy presentations.

Starting the night off in the trophy dashes, three different drivers stole the win on the last lap of each of their respective classes! The first one to do so was Chuck Morigeau in the Bomber A dash. Morigeau trailed James Kammerer for five laps before finally edging around him for the win on lap six.

Next up was Dave Drake in the Hobby Stock class rubbing bumpers with Fred Ashley who must have thought he had the win in his pocket until the final lap when Drake snuck around him for the checkered!

Rocky Walters, Chris DeReu, Tracy Burland and Mike Lyons, who all run Super Stocks are so closely matched that it is anyone's guess as to who will take each win! These drivers gave the crowd some of the most exciting, competitive and equal racing during weekend. DeReu edged Walters out in the trophy dash on the last lap. However, DeReu held everyone at bay during the Heat race keeping the lead from start to finish for himself. Walters turned it around in the Main leading all 20 laps with a tight pack following close behind him the entire time!

The wild ride of the night came in the Bomber Main Event, when driver James Kammerer hit a plastic barrel that had been bumped onto the track by another car. The barrel wedged under Kammerer's front bumper, staying there for several laps. The barrel finally came loose, causing a red flag that realigned and restarted the race.

On tap next weekend, the 20th of May, will be the Pepsi/Pizza Hut Street Stocks, the MGD/Light Hobby Stocks, Bombers, Kids Rides and a specialty race with Sponsors and Pitman! Time trials begin at 6:00 pm with racing at 7:00. Check our website for further details: www.pitstop.com/mvs/index.htm
