Cory Wolfe Wins Late Model 125
The Dan Aadsen Ford Power Stroke Diesel Late Model 125 was the feature race of the evening. Top late model drivers were set to battle it out for $10,000 in prize money. In the early stages of the event contact was made when Bob Schweigert #57 passed Kirk Hennefer #25 for the top spot. Hennefer came back after Schweigert and made contact with him the following lap, resulting in Schwiegart spinning. Schwiegart was later leading the race when he got up on the dirt bank and he had to have set a record for the longest distance of riding the dirt bank. His car finally came off the bank and slid down the track. Angi Howell #1 had to spin to miss Sweigert's spinning car and Howell kicked up tons of dust as he went for a long slide through the infield. After all of this Jeff Little #10 was in the lead, but Mike Keogh #82 was right behind him. Keogh was able to get around Little, he took the lead and held if for a long time. Hennefer went for a spin, then went for another spin as he got tangled up with Howell when Howell bobbled. Track record holder Rocky Erickson #74 went for a spin and Little had to slide through the grass to miss him. Defending race winner Cory Wolfe #88 was stocking Keogh for over 50 laps. Wolfe made his move in lap traffic and got under Keogh to take the lead. Cory Wolfe #88 never looked back as he picked up another Dan Aadsen Ford Power Stoke Diesel Late Model 125 win. Mike Keogh finished second and Tim Elliot #27 took home third. Kirk Hennefer and Rocky Erickson rounded out the top five.
In MGD/Lite Hobby Stock action Dennis Dumont #45 was leading the main event until his motor let go in big way. Smoke and oil poured from Dumont's car as he spun in front of the field. Everyone did a good job of a missing the car spinning in the smoke. When the race restarted leader Casey Brandt #31 was trying to hold off Justin Drake #13.Brandt was really protecting the bottom of the track as Drake looked everywhere to try get around him. On the last lap Drake muscled his way underneath Brandt to take the win. Justin Drake #13 took home the main event win in his first hobby start of the season.
Track crew member Jeremy Rice proposed to his girlfriend before the late model race. She said yes. Mike Keogh gave a prerace invocation. Christa Salomen a junior out of Ronan sang the National Anthem. The Lost Prairie Sky Divers dropped onto to the track from above carrying an American, Canadian and Checkered flag. Whitney McCollum a 16 year old senior from St. Ignatius was the evenings trophy girl and the trophy car was a 2004 Ford Thunderbird. Congratulations to Mark Fairchild for owning the lucky winning ticket in the Starlite 24 foot enclosed trailer raffle.
