Pablo, MT - Try as they might, the Mission Valley Auto Racers just seem to be having a rash of bad weather this 2000 season! Saturday's night of racing came and looked promising for the Budweiser Compact 75, (the compact's premiere race of the year); however, after the trophy dashes and heat races were run, a torrential downpour stopped the Bomber Main Event with 4 of the 30 laps left to run!

The downpour left several inches of water on the track, causing the MVAR officials and board members to call the night complete per the MVAR Weather Policy. No rain checks were issued due to ½ of the scheduled events being run. The Budweiser Compact 75 will be run at a later date in the season.

Buffalo Express Auto Parts of Polson was the trophy sponsor for the night with trophy presentations being made by, Rachel Munn, a Polson High School Freshman. Rachel is the daughter of Don & Janet Munn, who also provided the 1978 Ford Bronco for the trophy car.

Boy Scout Troup #40, lead by Scout Master Don Cisney, presented the colors for the National Anthem prior to the first race. The troop included, Tim Calahan, JJ Calahan, Justin Cisney, Buddy Cheff, Bobby Reynolds, Brandon Zindler, and Tory Bick.

The first races of the night were the Compact A & B trophy dashes in which driver Scott Cheff, #46 of Columbia Falls took home his first trophy of the season with a win in the B Dash! Current points leader in the Budweiser Compacts class, Arnie Coleman, #2, took home the trophy in the A Dash.

The added prize money for the Compact 75 race that had to be postponed, and will be run at a later date, was donated by the following Valley businesses. American Business Forms, AT&T Repair, Buffalo Express Auto Parts, Duane Olsen Trucking, Dufords Tire & Offroad, M&S Enterprises, Mission Valley Auto, NAPA Auto Parts, Odyssey Auto Glass, Quality Body Shop, Quonset Quick Lube, St.Clair's Body 4X Plus Repair, Schultz Refrigeration, Sun Rental, Valley TV Repair all of Polson, Bob's Auto Mart, Pablo, and K-O Automotive in Ronan!

During the Hobby stock time trials, Brad Lee posted a 17.55 that knocked out Dave Drake's 17.57 fast time of 2000! However, Drake timed in after Lee posting a 17.54 on his first lap reclaiming the fast time of 2000 spot in this Hobby Stock class!

In the Hobby heat race Wade Shepard, #4, Charlo, took over the lead from Carl Nordberg, #6, Polson, on lap two holding it through to the checkered! The race was stopped with one red flag on lap ten, due to Nordberg blowing a tire and spinning him out and into the wall on turn four! After the restart it was bumper-to-bumper racing between Shepard and Drake for first with Shepard just edging out Drake for the win. The Hobby Main was one of the two races that were unable to be run due to the rainout.

The Bomber class showed with an impressive number of cars Saturday night that included two cars running for their first time at MVS this season! Two trophy dashes were run, as well as the Bomber Heat and Main Event. Bill McCallum, of Kalispell, took home a trophy in the B dash; with Mike Drake winning the A dash. Yet another Bomber driver, James Kammerer, #69, took the win in the Heat and when the Main event race was called due to weather, Chuck Morigeau was in the lead!

Next week at MVS will be the Mission Valley Memorial Hobby Stock 125, (dbl pts), the traveling class of Canadian Old Timers that run classic coupe body styled cars with straight six cylinder engines. Also on tap will be the Alamon Telco Formula Indy's. Time trials begin at 6:00 pm with racing at 7:00 pm.
