Pablo, MT - Once again at the Mission Valley Speedway here, the Compact class of stock cars put on an awesomely even matched set of races! This class of four cylinder, 1985 and older compact cars has veteran to rookie drivers in its midst, however, each week this season they seem to put on a tighter, more competitive race than the last!
The Compact Main event had to be the most exciting of them all last Saturday. Newcomer to the class, Chuck Morigeau, driving #6, took and held the lead through lap eight. At this point, Lolo's, Alvin Brester, #4, having made his way from the back of the pack passed Morigeau for the lead. Brester continued on for sixteen laps, all the while trying to fend off point's leader, Arnie Coleman! The race was won at the finish line by Coleman's nose of his car crossing just inches before Brester! The race had the crowd on their feet cheering on their favorite drivers!
Also on tap Saturday night was the Pepsi/Pizza Hut Super Stocks, the Alamon Telco Formula Indy's and the dual controlled Krusers! Alamon Telco, Inc of Kalispell was the trophy sponsor for the night. Roger Smart provided his 1956 Ford pick-up for use as the trophy car.
The premier class of the night was the Pepsi/Pizza Hut Super Stocks. The Supers ran the first trophy dash of the evening with Kirk Hennefer making it look easy, taking the win!
The rest of the Super Stock night was Ronan's Tracy Burland's! Burland was able to hold off points leader, Chris DeReu of Columbia Falls, who was right on his bumper lap after lap in both the Heat and Main event races!
In the dual-controlled Kruser class, the team of Bill Stevenson and Cody Carpenter, #199 of Seeley Lake, took home their first trophies of the year with a win in the Trophy Dash! The Kruser Main Event race had a mid race driver switch in front of the grandstands. Driver and Passenger "throttle" man had to swap jobs for the remaining laps of the race! Another Seeley Lake car, #181, Ed and Dennis Stevenson, had the honors of winning the Main event.
The added attraction of the night was a burn out contest. Four participants vied for the crowd's approval to take home the winners trophy. They were, Shane Reum, Aaron Shalk, Kyle Snyder and Jeff Patterson. Patterson took home the honors after doing some fancy foot work with his truck..spinning a 360 at the end of his burn out turn. The crowd deemed Patterson the winner by applause!
Next week is the final weekend of racing for Mission Valley Speedway this season. Season Championships will be run with all classes receiving double points. No time trials will be held. Racing will begin at 6:00 PM with two sets of trophy dashes per class, High Point trophy dash and Fast Time of the year trophy dash. A kid's bicycle race will be held at intermission along with crowning of the 2000 trophy queen and 2000-trophy vehicle. Main events in the Super stocks, Hobby stocks, Compacts, Bombers, Formula Indy's and Krusers will finish out the evening.
