PENDLETON, Ind. -- When the American Speed Association visits the Minnesota State Fair Park, on September 6, Kenny Wallace and Ted Musgrave will be among the drivers competing for the Miller Lite 300 crown. The ACDelco Challenge Series will make their 22nd appearance at the .50-mile fairground speedway, which will also be headlined by the appearances of Craftsman Truck Series driver Scott Hansen and Busch Grand National rookie point leader Tony Raines.
Wallace and Musgrave, who are Winston Cup veterans, will compete at Darlington Int'l (SC) Raceway in the Southern 500 on Sunday. The following day they will be among the competitors in ASA action at Minnesota State Fair Park, along with Hansen and Raines. Chris Tahti, Entertainment Coordinator at the Minnesota State Fair, said, "Having these drivers participate shows the strong tradition of ASA racing. There have been and still are fabulous drivers with roots in ASA. It is nice to be able to showcase those roots at the fair."
Musgrave was the 1987 ASA rookie of the year, recorded four pole positions and won three national events. His first victory occurred at Winchester (IN) Speedway in 1988 and followed that up with wins at Indianapolis Raceway Park and Tri-City Motor Speedway . Musgrave will become the second member of his family to compete in ASA this season, as Teddy Jr. finished in the 21st position at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway on August 8.
Wallace captured the 1986 rookie of the year award in ASA, and has a best finish of second on two occasions. His premier season occurred in 1988 when he finished seventh in the final point standings, while producing ten top-ten finishes.
