PENDLETON, Ind. - The ACDelco Challenge Series makes the annual Labor Day trip to Minnesota State Fair Park on Monday, September 6 for the Miller Lite 300, the 16th stop on the 20-race schedule.
The 1998 race saw Green Bay (Wis.) native Scott Hansen conquer the .50-mile oval for the second-straight year. He charged past 1996 series champion Tony Raines with just nine laps remaining in the 300-lap event, earning his series-leading seventh ASA victory of the season. 1998 ACDelco Challenge Series National Champion Gary St. Amant took runner-up honors, followed by Raines.
Rookie Adam Petty earned his second pole position in afternoon qualifying, triggering the clocks at 20.168 seconds (89.250 mph). Bob Senneker and Jack Landis completed the top-three qualifiers when the 32-car field was set.
The current national points leader Mike Miller is the only 1999 regular to have won at Minnesota. Other former ASA winners at Minnesota include stock car greats Senneker, Hansen, Mark Martin, Jim Sauter, Dick Trickle, Mike Eddy and Butch Miller. 1999 race winners St. Amant, Tim Sauter, Mike Garvey and rookie Derrick Gilchrist will all be looking for their first Minnesota victory.
