Star Speedway ISMA-Lucas Oil May 3 opener cancelled; Seekonk May 4 show goes on as scheduled.
Oswego, NY - It was decided late Wednesday, April 30, that the ISMA portion of the May 3 opening event at Star Speedway would have to be cancelled. Star, in Epping, NH, had been under some mandatory repairs the past few weeks and needed a certificate from local Epping inspectors in order to open.
While the inspection was done today, the certificate would not have been in the hands of Star's owners until Friday at the earliest, thus putting the ISMA race possibly in jeopardy. Although Star's regular race divisions may still have the opportunity to race, it was deemed by ISMA-Lucas Oil officials, that because of the distance many teams have to travel and the threat of bad weather looming, it would be in everyone's best interest to cancel the event.
"We have teams travelling from the mid-west and Canada and the New Hampshire trip requires taking Friday off for most of them," said ISMA President Chuck Handley Wednesday evening.
"We decided to cancel the Star show early enough to notify everyone. The Seekonk show will go on as scheduled Sunday, May 4, however. Seekonk has even offered a Saturday afternoon practice session in case any ISMA owners and drivers would like some extra warmup time to get their cars dialed in."
So, with the Star date now cancelled, Seekonk, as stated, will allow practice from 12 until 5 pm on Saturday. ISMA crews are reminded that they must bring their own fuel to Seekonk as the methanol truck is not allowed there. For the Sunday 75 lapper, pit gates will open at 8 am with warmups at noon. First heats of the afternoon are flagged off at 1 pm. There is a mandatory ISMA-Lucas Oil driver's meeting at 11:00 am in the pit area.
