Butch Miller claims 3rd pole and finish 5th at Madison International Speedway.
Oregon, WI. (July 28, 2002) - With the heat index exceeding 110 degrees, this weekend was a challenge for all members of the #04 ASILIMITED team. "A top 5 finish in these conditions and to bring the car home clean is a tremendous success." says team owner Ken Smith.
Butch Miller on Saturday solidified himself in the record book of ASA by gaining his 3rd pole of the year and 46th pole of his career. He now sits alone in 2nd place following only Bob Senneker by 11 poles.
It was apparent from the start that the goal for the #04 ASILIMITED Monte Carlo was a consistent run, conserve brakes and be in a position to win the race in the last 50 laps. "I really had a fast car today, however, I was unable to get on the gas out of the turns. I could run with the leaders, but I couldn't get past them." said Miller.
"We changed the car all day trying to get it set for Butch. We got close, but not there. I'll take a top 5 anytime." says a tired leader Deon Deneau.
Butch Miller and the #04 ASILIMITED Monte Carlo has moved within 2 points of the Top 20 position in the Owner Standings in just 6 starts out of the 13 races fielded by ASA. Current statistics for 6 races this year are 3 poles, 3 wins, 2 top 5s and 1 top 10.
The 2002 ASA Racing Series returns to action on Sunday, August 11 with the Metro Toledo - Northwest Ohio Dealers 300 at Toledo Speedway. The race will take the green flag just after 1 p.m. (Central) and will be telecast live on TNN.
