MADISON, Wis. - Ricky Johnson picked up his ninth top-15 effort of the year, finishing 12th in the ASA ACDelco Series race Saturday evening at the Madison International Speedway. Johnson and the No. 22 Nationwide Auction Systems/WorldBestBuy.com team pitted for fresh tires during the final caution of the ACDelco Factory Motor Parts 300 and came out of the pits in prime position to go for the win. As the green flag run continued, the tires tightened up and Johnson backslid to 12th place, one lap down to the leaders.
"We had an up and down day with the Nationwide Auction Systems/WorldBestBuy.com Chevy," Johnson said. "We worked on the car hard during the race. We had a good race car. Before the last pit stop, we were up to seventh place."
"We made a call to change the left side tires on the last pit stop," Johnson continues. "It had helped us in the past, so we figured it would work in our favor again. We had an awesome stop. We gained four positions in the pits and I felt confident I could challenge for the win."
"The front pan fell off, then the left side tires tightened up and that was two strikes against us," Johnson said. "The main thing, though, is we stayed out of trouble, avoided the crashes and the car is in one piece. We're going to test this week and try some new things on the car. We should be set then to go after the win at Milwaukee."
Johnson started the No. 22 Herzog Motorsports entry in 18th place, securing the final spot via qualifications. Johnson remains ninth in the ASA points standings, 90 points behind eighth place.
