Butch Miller grabs Madison pole.

Madison, WI (July 27, 2002) - Veteran Butch Miller of Michigan moved past Dick Trickle into second place on the all-time ASA list for poles earned by capturing the 46th of his career for Sunday's BFGoodrich Tires 300. His time of 18.623 secs. / 96.655 mph gave him his third pole of the season in only his sixth outing in the number 04 ASI Limited entry.

"The car was good enough to win the pole, but I thought it was a terrible lap," said Miller. "The car was loose and I drove it stupid, so I hope there is still a lot of speed in the car."

Rookie Kyle Busch of Las Vegas will start on the outside of the front row for a third time this season. Busch turned a lap of 18.656 secs. and felt the track reminded him of Mesa Marin Speedway in California. "I didn't think the time would stand up for th e pole," said Busch. "The old guys in this series seem to spank you and put you in your place."

Kevin Cywinski of Wausau, Joey Clanton of Georgia and Gary St. Amant, the 2000 winner in ASA at Madison rounded out the top-five qualifiers.

Race day activities find the spectator gates opening at 11 a.m. with the on-track fan autograph session featuring the Spirits Dance Team starting at 11 a.m. The BFGoodrich Tires 300 will take the green flag at 1 p.m. (Central).
