LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Ricky Johnson came close to capturing his first win in the ASA ACDelco Series Saturday night at the difficult Louisville Motor Speedway. After a wild last lap charge, Johnson and the Nationwide Auction Systems/WorldBestBuy.com Chevrolet Monte Carlo crossed the finish line 0.653 seconds behind winner Butch Miller to collect his best finish of the year. His second place finish is also his best finish in the series. His previous best finish was a third at Anderson Speedway in 1999.

After taking the white flag, Johnson battled with Miller who got underneath him in turn two. With lapped traffic ahead of the two, Johnson dove to the inside of a lapped car while Miller went to the outside. Johnson made contact with the lapped car as Miller managed to take the checkered flag first.

"Butch was able to get underneath me," Johnson explains. "I went to the inside, hoping the lappers would go high. I went through the grass trying to beat Butch back, but it wasn't meant to be."

"It was classic short track racing," Johnson said. "The Vortec-powered Nationwide Auction Systems/WorldBestBuy.com Chevrolet Monte Carlo ran well all night. We were fast from the time we unloaded. It was great to be in a position to win our first race. We finished an exciting, but disappointing second."

Randy Herzog, co-owner of the No. 22 Herzog Motorsports entry, was excited about Johnson's run. "What a finish to an exciting race," Herzog said. "Ricky did a great job and I just knew we were going to pick up our first win this year, but it just wasn't the case. Ricky ran strong at Cedar Rapids last year so we're looking to collect our win there in our associate sponsor's (WorldBestBuy.com) race."

Johnson was able to lead 85 laps during the ACDelco Service Specialist 300. With Johnson's second place finish, he moved up to sixth in the 2000 ASA National Points Standings.

The ASA ACDelco Series heads to Cedar Rapids, Iowa this Saturday for the WorldBestBuy.com 250 at Hawkeye Downs Speedway. The green flag is set to wave at 3 P.M. E.S.T. TNN Sports will telecast the race live.
