Stephen Leicht, #89 of Waltom Racing wins the ASALMS Opener!

Lexington, MI - The ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts completed the opening event of the year with Stephen Leicht, #89 of Waltom Racing winning the event. 26 of the best drivers in the country came out to compete for the win.

May 7th, "The UB Machine 100" saw 38 teams turn out to compete for one of the 26 positions in the feature event. Stephen Leicht was the 3rd fastest qualifier of the event with a 17.804 time. With only 26 positions available for the feature event, competition was fierce.

Stephen passed race leader Kris Stump, the #23 of Hock Motorsports on the 61st lap and held the lead from there with Brian Campbell, #29 close on his tail for the remaining laps. This is the 2nd feature win for Leicht, the 1st win was Calhoun County Speedway during the 2004 season where teams will be returning next week. Stephen has quite a record with the series with two feature wins and only 3 starts.

24 teams completed the event with only 2 DNF's. All the teams had a great 1st showing for the ASALMS opener. For the first race, fans were awarded with lots of action and passing. The 100 lap event showed 9 caution flags total.

The Series also saw fast qualifier Brent Downey set a new track record at Baer Field Speedway in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Fast time was 17.765 by this young up and coming driver.

The next ASA Late Model Series event is on May 14th at the Calhoun County Speedway in Springport, MI - "The Snap-on Tools 100" Presented by Lane Automotive and Q106FM.
