Kris Stump joins list of championship contenders for the 2005 ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts season.
In a series filled with promising, young, and up and coming talent, West Branch, Michigan based owner, Ed Hock, knows good talent when he sees it. With the demise of the ASA National Tour, Hock is not sitting back wondering what to do this upcoming season and in turn has signed on former National Tour driver, Kris Stump for a run at the series championship in 2005 with ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts.
"I am very optimistic going into this year." Offered Stump when asked about his aspirations for the upcoming season. "Ed has provided us with some top notch equipment, and if we secure some sponsorship, we should be championship contenders." Continued the 10-year veteran and former two-time Kil-Kare (OH) Speedway Late Models Track champion. "I will be disappointed if we finish out of the top seven in points. I expect to win at least one race this year." Kris boldly predicted.
Kris is a two-time Kil-Kare (OH) Speedway Late Model Track Champion. He won those titles during his rookie season of 2000 and again in 2001. In that 2001 season, the Buckeye State driver finished fourth in the NASCAR Heartland Region final points standings. Over his career, he has made 177 starts in Late Models.
In 2003, his rookie season in the now defunct ASA National Tour, Kris finished 22nd in the 2003 driver standings, starting 15 of the 17 events. In 2004 Stump finished 20th in the final point's chase in the National tour while recorded a career high sixth at Kentucky Speedway. He also qualified second quick at the immaculate Mansfield (OH) Motorsports Speedway.
At just 25-years-old, Kris has nearly 100 wins in full-body stock cars, including 33 feature wins. Stump also holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Electronics Engineering Technology from ITT Technical Institute of Indianapolis IN. He was the valedictorian with a cumulative 4.0 GPA.
His car owner, Ed Hock is no stranger to the ASA scene; the West Branch MI native has fielded cars in the ASA National tour since the 2000 season for such drivers as Glenn Allen Jr., Shane Hall, and Todd Rosebrugh. Allen Jr., a former ASA National tour runner-up in 1995 to champion, Bryan Reffner, will serve as Team Manager for Hock Motorsports.
"Kris will do a great job and we'll definitely contend." Said Hock. "He has a knack for staying out of trouble and will always be there at the end." Kris also added to what Allen Jr., brings to the team. "Glenn is the acting Team Manager of Kris Stump Racing Inc. He has been working for me for two years now. Basically the cars are owned by Ed, but they are kept at my shop in Cincinnati where my employees and I build and maintain them." Ended Stump.
The Ed Hock Motorsports owned and prepared Chevrolet Monte Carlo is actively seeking sponsorship for the 2005 season.
