James "Cricket" Butler returns for 2005 ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts Season
An influx of new drivers entering the fray for the 2005 season should make for a nice blend of new talent and returning drivers for the ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts campaign. One driver that is expected to improve after one season with the series is sophomore driver, James "Cricket" Butler, who has announced plans to run the entire 2005 schedule for the ASA Late Model Series.
"This is my second year of racing anything, so our biggest goal this season is improving on last years results." Said Butler when asked about his aspirations for the upcoming season. "That would be quite the accomplishment for me given the increase in competition for 2005." Continued the Niles, Michigan driver. "Our goals for the season are to make feature races, finish in the top 20 in points, win a B feature race and have fun!. That's the most important thing." Added Butler.
In 2004, his rookie season in any type of race car, James finished 20th overall in points and 10th in the rookie point's chase. He was also a member of the 100% Winner's Circle Program. His season highlight was a 12th place showing at the tricky Tri-City (MI) Motor Speedway, a unique five-turn ½ mile that gives even veterans with experience fits, let alone a rookie competitor seeing the place for the first time.
"Every lap in the car I felt more comfortable. My biggest problem was making feature races, obviously due to qualifying or the lack there of. I tried too hard to go "fast" in qualifying." Butler assessed about his 2004 rookie campaign, his first full season in any type of race car! "I would like to think I will be more relaxed this year which should help with better qualifying times." Continued Butler. "Again, given the quality of drivers in this series, my work is cut out for me."
As far as what he can bring to the table for the 2005 season, James offered this; "Other than more seat time, I'd say the biggest thing is teamwork! In my crew, five of the six crew members are returning this year. Buzzy, Jim, Kyle, Kevin, and Catie (His Daughter) are the greatest! The "True Crew", and the experience that Doug True and his dad, Dave True have is invaluable to the #12 team." Butler appreciatively said when talking about his teammate, Doug True. "Bottom line is without them the #12 wouldn't exist. Doug's crew including, Stacy, David, Brandy and Mark, are all very helpful and supportive. This is a total team effort that will allow me to focus on the "important stuff" like driving!" Ended the hopeful Butler.
For his sophomore season, "Cricket" will once again run the full season with the ASA Late Model Series driving a Chevrolet Monte Carlo and will also once again team up with the fourth place finisher in the 2004 points standings, Doug True, as part of True's Motorsports. Butler will carry sponsorship from: Gallagher's Carpets, T.R.P./True Racing Products, Tyler Automotive, Define Herbicide, Option Herbicide, True's Welding & Metal Fab, H.E.I Wireless, Torco Racing Fuel, and Lane Automotive.
