ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts gears up for first ever appearance at the Illiana (IN) Motor Speedway.
With race number two in the 2005 ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts schedule in the books, the cars and stars of the ASA Late Model Series will now prepare for race number three on the 2005 Series Tour. The series will make its first ever appearance at the Illiana (IN) Motor Speedway in Schererville, Indiana for the running of the Illiana 100 Presented by GM Performance Parts on Saturday June 4th.
2005 Series Opener feature winner at the Baer Field (IN) Speedway, Stephen Leicht, fresh off his second top two finish in two starts, a runner-up showing at the series' last event at the Madison (WI) International Speedway, will headline another star studded field of cars as they take on the uniquely shaped 1/2 mile semi-banked paved oval located at the Indiana/Illinois border. The Asheville, North Carolina driver is the current series point's leader after two of the scheduled 16 events. 15-year-old sophomore sensation and the Motive Gear Pole Award winner at Madison, Landon Cassill will be gunning for his first career series feature win, as the Fairfax, Iowa rising star is showing no signs of a sophomore slump. Madison, Wisconsin driver, Chad Wood, whose early season success has landed him in fourth place in the season long points chase after two events, looks to challenge for his first career series win. Defending series champion, Bobby Stremme looks to continue his run a t defending his series title as the reigning Rookie of the Year sits a solid fifth in the series point's standings after two shows. Look for the South Bend, Indiana champion to be competitive all evening long as he continues to defend his series championship in 2005.
Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year point's leader, Brian Campbell, will headline a stellar field of freshmen pilots that also includes, Ryan Carlson, hot off his fifth place showing at Madison and Kris Stump, who looks to redeem himself after not making the show at Madison. Jason Dietsch hopes to use his experience at the 1/2 mile semi-banked paved oval in recent years in his USA Modified, to give the Edgerton, Ohio driver a small advantage over the expected strong field on hand. Brent Downey, the Hard-Charger Award winner from the previous event at Madison as well as the Motive Gear Pole Award winner at the 2005 Series opener at the Baer Field, along-with another strong rookie, Travis Dassow all are hoping to show the rest of the field that this crop of rookies are definitely not to be taken lightly by anyone!
Some of the stars of the ASA Late Model Series have already seen time this season at the Illiana speed plant as Hendrick Motorsports Development driver; Chase Austin has already captured a Limited Late Model feature win back on May 21st. It was the Eudora, Kansas pilot's first career feature win as the 15-year-old rising star hopes that his extra seat time at the 1/2 mile will aid in his efforts to capture his first career series victory. Local star, Tony D'Ambrose will be making his first official appearance of the season after showing up for the rained out show at the Calhoun County (MI) Speedway back on May 14th.
An expected field of 40+ of the top cars and stars in the country will provide plenty of excitement for the fans of Western Indiana and Eastern Illinois! The Illiana Motor Speedway Pure Stox and Turbo Stox will serve as the under card to the much anticipated first ever appearance by the ASA Late Model Series at the uniquely shaped 1/2 mile semi-banked paved oval. Everything gets underway with Practice for the ASA Late Model Series beginning at 2:30pm (Local Time) Motive Gear Qualifying will begin at 4:45pm with racing getting under way at 7:00pm.
