New Egypt, NJ (June 29) -- Drivers and fans will find that a "hit" is a sweet bonus -- not the usual car-crashing calamity -- on Saturday night, July 8, as Mid-State Communications of Trenton, NJ, presents Grand Slam Little League Night at New Egypt Speedway.

All Little Leaguers in uniform, ages 7-12, will be admitted free to the special baseball-themed night of racing action, featuring big-block Modifieds, Sportsman, and a Street Stock "double-play" -- two main events for Street Stocks, one a holdover from June 17. Fans can test their knowledge of baseball trivia, as "umpires" Nick Leach and Pete Wortman call the game. And competitors will join the lineup too -- gripping baseball bats instead of steering wheels for a brief change of sport.

During the seventh inning stretch, heat race winners from all three divisions will be on deck for Mid-States' Grand Slam Challenge, where drivers will "batter up" and attempt to hit a home run for the cheering grandstands. Every racer who can knock a pitch out of the park will receive $50 from Mid-State Communications, suppliers of all radio systems in use at New Egypt. The "umpires" will make the calls. "Three strikes and you're out!"

Can Billy Pauch hit a pop fly? Will Kenny Brightbill or Sportsman leader Rich Scagliotta ground out? Or will Street Stock star Billy Bauer be able to blast the ball into oblivion? Come on out for the game on July 8.

Gates open at 4 pm. We'll throw out the "first ball" at 6:30 pm. Adult admission is $12, children 7-12 are $4 and kids 6 and under are free. For more information, call the speedway office at (609) 758-1900.
