KEATON WINS FIRST NATIONAL RACE AT CONCORD MOTORSPORTS PARK Danny Keaton in the #11 Maintenance Equipment T-Bird won his first race in a Legacy car in the Intermedia Allison Legacy 50 at Concord Motorsport Park. Keaton took over the lead on lap 17 from Akron Ohio's Mike Smith in the Owens Corning/Eagle Motorsports T-Bird. Smith led from lap number one from his second place starting position alongside Pole Sitter Brad May from Largo, Florida in the #33 Malcolmson Construction Monte Carlo.
Keaton from Charlotte, NC held off several challenges for the lead from National Points Leader, Jay Godley, #25 from Charlotte, Brad May, Mike Smith and young Rookie, John Lain. Lain in the #42 DynoCo Engine Dyno Service mount finished in fourth place behind Keaton, Smith and Godley. New Jersey's Dan Doeler, driving the Eagle Motorsports team car, #21 held off pole sitter Brad May for the fifth spot. Lain claimed Rookie of the Race honors.
Pensacola's Rene West in the #38 brought out a caution on lap three as sparks flew from his machine in turn one. Racing resumed until lap thirteen which was unlucky for veteran driver, Foy Stilwell in the #3 Vinnie's Raw Bar machine. Stilwell was involved in an altercation with John Long III from Mt.Sidney, Virginia in the #9 car.
Bob Saville borrowed points leader Godley's backup car and started twenty sixth. He charged to an eighth place finish and was the Hard Charger of the Race. The 50 lap event followed the Hooters Pro Cup 250. Several Legacy Series graduates were in competition in the Hooters race.
The next National Race for Legacy cars is the World Classic 300 at Hickory Motor Speedway in Hickory, North Carolina on Sunday, November 12th at 2:00pm. This race will determine the points championships for both the National Touring Series and the Carolina Region Series. Practice and qualifying will be on Saturday, November 11th.
