ASA Educational Series Names Larry Foyt Spokesperson
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Larry Foyt has been named the official spokesman of the American Speed Association Educational Series.
The new series, set to begin racing in the spring, pairs race teams and participating high schools together. The program works in a uniquely designed format to educate students on how to work on racecars through classroom studies, teamwork, and race day preparation. Students work towards earning scholarships and furthering their education to become certified automotive technicians. The groups will each field a team with the new American Speed Association Midwest Tour.
In accepting the role as the series spokesman, Foyt said, "The ASA Educational Series will make an immediate impact in the Midwest, but the key element is the student population. These high school students will play a major role in the development of the series. They will have the capacity to learn the fundamentals of everything related to racecars and through the process will earn scholarships to become technicians. I am deeply honored to serve as the spokesperson for this new group."
Foyt presently serves as Team Director for the ABC Supply IRL IndyCar team. He began his racing career with go-kart competition in 1993 then advanced through the ranks of Formula 2000, SCCA, American Speed Association National Tour, and the NASCAR Busch Series and Nextel Cup. He made his debut at the Indianapolis 500 in 2004 and recorded a 28th place finish. He sustained his worst racing injury in the 2005 running of the event at the Brickyard and sat out the remainder of the season. Recently Foyt has done speedway testing for Evernham Motorsports.
The ASA Educational Series was co-founded by Steve Einhaus and Pete Raskovic and is headquartered in Beloit Wisconsin and can be found on the web at www.education.asamidwesttour.com
Raskovic concluded, "I have known Larry Foyt for some time and he is an extremely educated individual who is an equally sincere person. Larry truly values the importance of an education and will be a great role model for the students involved with the new series. His affiliation with the series will play a significant role in growing this new concept in our home base, the Midwest. Larry is a great guy to work with and we are honored to welcome him to the series."
