Gainesville, GA (April 7) - Ricky Johnson of California won his first ASA ACDelco Series pole at Lanier National Speedway on Friday afternoon. His qualifying time of 13.958 seconds / 96.719 mph was the best of 49 cars attempting to make the field for the Saturday, 9 p.m. (Eastern) Discount Auto Parts 300.

It is the first pole for Johnson in his Nationwide Auction Systems Chevrolet Monte Carlo in his second full ASA season. He was the 1999 rookie of the year and is a two-time former AMA National Motocross champion.

Chad Wood of Madison, Wisconsin, qualified second at 13.966 seconds and Kevin Cywinski of Wisconsin was third at 14.023.

Mike Miller of Woodstock, Georgia qualified 11th and Joey Clanton of Stockridge, Georgia qualified 16th.

A 100 lap qualifying race held Friday night saw former Lanier track champion Wayne Willard of Buford, Georgia, unable to finish after a late race incident. He missed qualifying for Saturday's Discount Auto Parts 300 when his Chevrolet sustained heavy dama ge after a multi-car entanglement.

Wisconsin's Dennis Lampman led all 100 laps to earn the 25th starting position in the 34 car field. Others qualifying for their first ASA national event include rookies Wayne Leaman of North Carolina and Paul Dallenbach of Colorado.

Gates open at 5 p.m. with the on-track fan autograph session set for 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults with children under 12 free if accompanied by an adult.
