Kyle Jones enters ASA's inaugural visit to Mansfield
Pendleton, Ind. (June 9, 2003) -- Looking to make his ASA Racing Series debut, Kyle Jones of Springfield, Ohio, has filed an entry for the Ohio 250 at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway on Saturday, June 21. In April, Jones' career was put on hold for an apparent liver alignment. Doctors have cleared him to race.
"I'm very pleased to make my ASA debut at Mansfield. We are hoping to test and get some experience with the ASA car prior to the event. My season has gotten a late start, so I'm really looking forward to climbing in a race car," said Jones.
Jones is scheduled to compete in five ASA events at Mansfield, Indianapolis Raceway Park, Jennerstown Speedway, Lake Erie Speedway and Fairgrounds Speedway at Nashville. He will also make appearances in the Sunoco Super Series and the Main Event Racing Series, driving cars prepared by Jeff Miller and J-VEE-M Racing of Columbus, Ohio.
"This is a great opportunity for me," said Jones. "I've been running Modifieds on a shoe- string budget recently, hoping to get an opportunity like this. Jeff Miller has been keeping an eye on my career and we raced together a little last year. He and his partners have really made the commitment to help further my career. It's going to be a big challenge to run the different series and different cars, but I really feel we can learn a lot this year to take into our full ASA season in 2004."
At 18-years old, Jones has built a list of racing accomplishments including an Eastern Grand Championship and Dirt Grand Championship in Quarter Midgets (1997-2000), six victories at three tracks as a rookie in Modified racing (2001), seven wins and 10 fast times in Modifieds (2002) and four wins and three fast times as a rookie Late Model competitor (2002).
J-VEE-M Racing has a long history of success and is looking to continue that with their new driver. Owners Jeff Miller, Ed Maddy, and Nelson Kohman have put together an impressive team that will feature Howe Chassis in both series, and T&L engines in the CRA/Sunoco Super Series. Miller's credentials include over 10 years of crew chief experience in ASA and a Winston Racing Championship in 1998. He will serve as the crew chief and team manager. Through the years, drivers including Gary St. Amant, Tom Harrington, Mike Stacy and Robbie Pyle have all had success in cars prepared by Jeff Miller and his team.
On the sponsorship side, the team is still seeking interested parties. "We've got a great opportunity for a sponsor to get involved and be a part of Kyle's career as he moves toward the highest levels of racing in the future. For the right sponsor, it would be like hitching a ride on a rising star." Interested parties can contact the team at 614-736-9191
The eighth event of the 2003 ASA Racing Series is set for Saturday, June 21 at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway in Mansfield, Ohio. The Ohio 250 takes the green flag at 9 p.m. (Eastern) and will be telecast live on SPEED Channel.
