KNOXVILLE, IOWA (December 9, 2003) - The hallowed grounds of the famed Knoxville Raceway will bring a vision to reality when the top XTREME Dirtcar Series drivers and teams meet in Knoxville, Iowa, on October 14, 15 and 16, 2004 for the STACKER2 XTREME Dirtcar National Finals. This exciting new event is part of a three-year agreement between Knoxville Raceway and the STACKER2 XTREME Dirtcar Series, and will crown a true National Late Model Champion annually.
The main event on Saturday night, October 16, will guarantee $3,500-to-start and $35,000-to-win as part of the $200,000 purse and contingency awards. For the main event, there will be guaranteed provisional starting positions for the individual champions of the Western, Mid-American, Southern and Northern Regional XTREME Series and the National XTREME Weekly Series.
Speed Channel will add the STACKER2 XTREME National Finals to its present schedule of Knoxville Raceway and STACKER2 XTREME Dirtcar Events with a 2-hour broadcast. In addition, fans worldwide will be able to listen to a live internet broadcast for all 3 days' action on the Knoxville Raceway Network.
According to Doug Bland, president of the STACKER2 XTREME Dirtcar Series, "The opportunity to showcase the National Extreme Dirtcar Series at the finest raceway in the world, Knoxville Raceway, completes the vision I have had for years." Bland went on to say, "With seating for 25000+ fans, the paved infield for over 100 cars, a 'drivers race track,' state of the art timing, scoring and broadcast facilities will make this the place to be every October as we crown the National Champion."
The Knoxville Raceway, a fairgrounds facility, attracts over 250,000 visitors annually, including 100,000+ in attendance at the annual mid-August Knoxville Sprint Car National Championship event. Ralph Capitani, Knoxville's director of racing stated, "We intend to develop the STACKER2 XTREME National Finals into the annual destination for fans, sponsors and suppliers of short-track Late Model racing with the three-day fan and trade show. The facilities for the fan and trade show include booths, traveling interactive displays and large hospitality areas for as many as 100 exhibitors."
Capitani went on to say, "The 52 skyboxes with closed-circuit TV, food and beverage service, as well as the four-story National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum, will provide the opportunity for fans, participants and sponsors to enjoy being a part of the fifty-year history of Knoxville Raceway. This includes the best in American racing with names like Foyt, Unser, Gordon, Kinser, Blaney, Wolfgang, Lasoski, Schrader, Kahne, and so many others that have moved on to further success in every major racing series."
