Rookie Kittleson Will Help In Search of Missing Child in Concord
Florida-based team will work with local police to help find Asha Degree
MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. (May 11, 2001) - ASA Rookie of the Year candidate Travis Kittleson, who will be competing in the ASA ACDelco Series BFGoodrich Tires 300 on May 20 at Concord Motorsport Park, has volunteered to assist the Cleveland County (North Carolina) Sheriff's Department while the team is in the area in search for a missing little girl.
The case involves the mysterious disappearance of 8-year-old Asha Degree in the early morning of Feb. 14, 2000. Asha's parents welcome the participation of Kittleson and the ASA ACDelco Series in helping to locate their daughter.
The Cleveland County Sheriff's Department's Lt. Gold advises that they have no strong leads of Asha's whereabouts at this point.
Kittleson, a 21-year-old first year ASA driver, has volunteered space on the hood of his racecar, the number 30 Bob Steele Chevrolet, to advertise and display a large picture of eight-year-old Asha Degree, along with the Sheriffs office numbers for direct reference of all leads.
The officers conducting the investigation, along with family members of Asha, will be with Kittleson and his crew Saturday and Sunday for the BFGoodrich Tires 300.
"With the BFGoodrich Tires 300 being nationally televised on TNN, I believe that the gesture will be beneficial to the Cleveland County sheriffs dept, as well as Mr and Mrs Degree," said Kittleson. "I hope this helps in the fast and safe return of Asha to her family. I feel very strongly toward this cause and am committed to this cause and would like to represent a missing child from every city or state I race in."
On Saturday, May 19, ASA practice begins at 9:30 a.m. with qualifications taking center stage at 2:30 p.m. The 100-lap qualifier race goes green at 5. On Sunday, ASA's exclusive on-track autograph session is scheduled for noon, with pre-race ceremonies starting at 12:15 p.m. The BFGoodrich Tires 300 goes green at 1 p.m.
Tickets for the BFGoodrich Tires 300 are available through the ASA office and are $25 for reserved sections and $20 for general admission. Additional information is available through the ASA ticket line, 1-888-ASA-1020. VISA, MasterCard and Discover are ac cepted for ticket orders.
