'King of the Mountian" rescheduled at Pocono Mountain Speedway

St. Johns, PA. . . . Pocono Mountain Speedway has rescheduled the "King of the Mountain" Weekend event from its original date to the weekend of October 21 & 22. This decision was made after the announcement of the postponement of the Sunoco Race of Champions scheduled for this weekend. Due to the ominous weather forecast, the management of the Race of Champions rescheduled the event to October 13th and 14th. Many competitors had committed to competing in both events. In order to accommodate the competitors who have pre entered and have expressed interest in competing at Pocono Mountain Speedway the date change was made to run October 21 & 22. This also gives all the competitors scheduled to run the final NASCAR Modified Tour, Late Model and Street Stock Race at Thompson Speedway an opportunity to compete at Pocono Mountain Speedway on the weekend of October 21st & 22nd.

Pocono Mountain Speedway's "The King Of The Mountain" will be held Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 21st and 22nd. The weekend will start off on Saturday with inspection and registration opening at 7 A.M., warm-ups will start at 10 A.M. and the first heat race will hit the track at noon. This day will be action packed, as cars from all over the northeast will attempt to qualify for each division. Qualifying will consist of heat races for the American Race Trucks, Factory Stocks, and Street Stocks (15 cars will qualify from each division, in addition to the heat races there will be time trials held for both the Modifieds and the Late Models. The day will conclude with a 30-lap feature event for the American Race Truck Series. Security will be on hand at the speedway overnight so that race teams can leave their vehicles and car hauler on the grounds, also there will be a designated area for over night camping at the speedway, which is free to competitors and race fans. On Sunday, October 22nd, the gates will open at 10 A.M. with the first last chance race to hit the track at 12:30 P.M. Five cars will qualify from the last chance races. The last chance races will consist of a 15-lap Factory Stock event, 20-lap Street Stock, event, 25-lap Late Model event and a 30-lap Modified event. Immediately following the last chance races the 40 lap Factory Stock Feature with a purse of $500 to win will take to the speedway. This event is open to ALL Factory Stocks, Pure Stocks, Roadrunners, and Enduro cars, the only rules the speedway has implied for this event is that all cars must use a 2 bbl carburetor and a street tire mounted on a factory rim {no recaps}. Following the Factory Stock event, there will be a 50 lap event for the Street Stocks with a $500 to win purse which is open to cars from Pocono Mountain Speedway, Mahoning Valley Speedway, Tioga Speedway, and cars falling into the rules of the R.O.C. Next on the card will be a 75 lap event for the Late Models with a $1000 to win purse which is open to cars from Pocono Mountain Speedway, Mahoning Valley Speedway, Clearfield Speedway, Flemington Speedway, and cars falling into the R.O.C. rules. The only rules implied by the speedway for this event will be any 10" racing tire Hoosier, Goodyear, etc., 2 bbl. carb, and all stock clip cars must weigh at least 2800lbs, all full 2x3 ect. frame cars must weigh 3000lbs and that all cars with aluminum heads must weigh an additional 200lbs.

Capping off this exciting weekend of racing will be the "King of The Mountain 100" for the Modifieds with a $2500 to win purse, track rules apply for this event which are similar to the NASCAR modified Tour rules, a track tire is available by contacting the speedway.
