Kauffman To Compete in 34th Annual Snowball Derby
LaGrange, IN (November 7, 2001) – Team LA West Motorsports with fifteen-year-old LaGrange, Indiana driver Joel Kauffman will compete in the upcoming 34th Annual Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida. Last season, Kauffman became the youngest driver to ever qualify for the Snowball Derby at fourteen, out qualifying several big names including veteran Late Model standout Jody Ridley. Kauffman hopes to improve upon his finish in last years Snowball Derby, Kauffman was involved in an early incident that ended his day prematurely.
Kauffman competed full-time with the Kendall Late Model Series in 2001, winning Hubler Group Rookie Of The Year honors along with a sixth place final finish in overall series points. Kauffman set fast time at Anderson Speedway on June 9th, and got a season best second place finish to Peter Cozzolino also at Anderson Speedway on April 21.
The 34th Annual Snowball Classic will begin with open practice on Thursday, November 29th with first round qualifying on Friday, November 30th. Second round qualifying and the Snowball 50 lap last chance race will be on Saturday, December 1st. The 34th Annual Snowball Derby will take the green flag on Sunday, December 2nd. Besides Ridley, other top Late Model drivers that are expected to race include last year’s winner Gary St.Amant, also Bobby Gill, Freddie Query, Wayne Anderson, and Eddie Mercer.
