NASHVILLE, TN - The American Speed Association held it's 8th race of the 2001 season Saturday at Nashville Speedway USA in Nashville (TN). The Luxaire 300 presented by Hecht's department store was full of action, including 15 lead changes among eight drivers, but when the smoke cleared there was only one man standing in victory lane, Johnny Sauter.

Sauter's 3rd win now puts him in the record books for wins by a rookie driver in a single season, tying Kevin Cywinski and Derrick Gilchrist.

Starting from the 16th position, Johnny quickly began his charge to the front. Great pit work gained him four positions on the first pit stop and by lap 100 he had moved into the top 5. Sauter led 5 times totaling 118 laps, taking the lead for the final time on lap 275.

"I think I'm going to have to invest in some guitar lessons," said Sauter after winning the coveted Gibson guitar, given out each year. "We've worked so hard this year and we're finally starting to show our potential."

The win puts Johnny in 5th place in the overall standings, just one point out of 4th. He also leads the rookie battle by 179 points over Mike Cope.

Up next, ASA will travel to I-70 Speedway in Odessa Missouri with racing action starting live on TNN at 8 pm (Central) on June 16th. FOR
