Pendleton, Ind. (October 10, 2003) -- The 2002 ASA Racing Series Champion Joey Clanton of Georgia is entered for the Sunday, October 19, BFGoodrich Traction T/A Tires 300 presented by Greased Lightning Orange Blast and Jani-King at Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville, Tenn. The event is the 2003 ASA Racing Series season finale.

The 30-year old Clanton will pilot the No. 71 Terry's Automotive Group/Cub Foods Chevrolet at Nashville marking his second appearance in ASA this season along with a Labor Day outing at Elko Speedway in Minnesota. He qualified on the outside front row for the September 1 Greased Lightning Orange Blast 400 and led the race on two occasions for 109 laps. Electrical problems forced a late race retirement on the 293rd circuit and a 27th place result.

Clanton has primarily been competing in the Busch Series in 2003. He recently left Brewco Motorsports of Kentucky. Having made 17 race starts in the NASCAR Busch Series this season, Clanton was second in the rookie Driver-of-the-Year point standings at the time.

Prior to this season, Clanton made 60 starts in ASA from 2000-2002, scoring 13 wins, six poles and 30 finishes in the top five and collecting the $50,000 Rookie of the Year honors in 2000. Last season, he pocketed a series best nine victories and won the championship by a record close margin of one point over two-time ASA National Champion Gary St. Amant.

In a pair of previous outings on the famed Fairgrounds Speedway .596-mile oval, Clanton posted two top-five performances. In 2000, he led for 38 laps and eventually finished fourth behind Tim Sauter, St. Amant and Kevin Cywinski. One year later saw the Georgian move up a position and finish on the podium behind only Johnny Sauter and Mike Cope. The 2001 race had Clanton leading three times for 84 laps. The event produced 15 lead changes among eight different drivers.

The 17th event of the 2003 ASA Racing Series is set for Sunday, October 19 at Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville, Tenn. The BFGoodrich Traction T/A Tires 300 presented by Greased Lightning Orange Blast and Jani-King takes the green flag at 3:00 p.m., (Local) and will be telecast live on SPEED Channel.
