Bradenton, FL -- June 28, 2003 -- Joe Boyd came into the 8th round of the All American Challenge Series leading the points race by 84 points, with two wins and three second place finishes. Even though the team was disappointed from the rain out the previous week that prevented Joe from participating in the Florida Late Model State Championship, they were focused and ready to go even with thunderstorms overhead once again. Joe qualified the Sky Comm USA/West Coast Fence of Tampa Chevrolet Monte Carlo in second position, but the rain would cut short qualifying with five cars still on the grid.
At race time the cars lined up according to points, and the starting order was determined after the roll of the die. The first three rows were inverted placing Joe back into the 6th spot. With the threat of rain on the horizon, Joe immediately went to work passing drivers almost every other lap. James Glover inherited the pole position on the roll of the die, and vigorously held them bottom line. Joe pulled within inches of Glover's car, but as the rain began to fall, the Sky Comm-West Coast Fence Chevrolet became too loose and was unable to get around the leader. "We set the car up loose to start off with, but when the rain came, it got way too loose to try and challenge Glover for the win at that point of the race" said Boyd. Joe finished 2nd to extend his top ten finishes to six.
The Boyd MotorSports Team now holds a 92 point lead for the AACS Championship at just over the half-way point of the season. The next event for the Boyd MotorSports team is August 9th at Desoto Speedway for round nine of the All American Challenge Series.
