Jimmy Mars posts a pair of 3rd place UDTRA runs over holiday weekend.
(Elk Mound, WI-- July 9, 2002) Jimmy Mars continues to keep his name at the top of the dirt late model racing game as the Wisconsin stock car competitor scored two 3rd place finishes over the holiday weekend in United Dirt Track Racing Association (UDTRA) action. Mars took his MasterSbilt Chevrolet Monte Carlo to 3rd place runs on Wednesday at Muskingum Country Speedway in Zanesville, OH and then again on Friday night at Raceway 7 in Conneaut, OH. Jimmy Mars Racing capped off the weekend with a 12th place result at West Virginia Motor Speedway on Saturday night. Mars is one of four dirt late model campaigners currently engaged in one of the hottest championship battles in the sport as he contends for the UDTRA title with Dale McDowell, Rick Eckert, and Steve Francis. This weekend Jimmy Mars Racing takes the Pro-Power Engine / T.L. Sinz Plumbing backed effort to Hagerstown, MD for another UDTRA sanctioned event. Entering the weekend Mars is posted in 4th place in the chase for the national crown, just 107 points out of the lead. Mars has powered to 14 top-5 UDTRA finishes in the 2002 season including an early-season UDTRA win coming during Speedweeks in February.
Following this week's UDTRA stop at Hagerstown Speedway, Mars will again face a triple-header UDTRA slate of action the following week with a Friday night (July 19th) stop at Atomic Motor Speedway in Knoxville, TN en route to Saturday and Sunday stops in Atlanta and Rome, GA.
Jimmy Mars is a former Rookie of the Year winner on the NASCAR RE/MAX Challenge Series. Mars is a former champion of the 1997 Dream race at Eldora Speedway, which yielded a career-high payday of $100,000 while also capturing titles at the Batesville (AR) Speedway's 2000" Topless 100" and the 1996"USA Nationals" (Cedar Lake Speedway). Mars has also charted high-profile national wins at both Bristol Motor Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway.
