Jimmy Mars stays in thick of heated national championship battle with another pair of top-5 runs on UDTRA tour.
(Elk Mound, WI-- June 27, 2002) Jimmy Mars turned in another pair of strong performances on the United Dirt Track Racing Association (UDTRA) tour across America's heartland to stay on course in his determined challenge for the National Championship of Dirt Late Model Racing. Mars brought his MasterSbilt Race Car / Pro-Power Engines backed Chevrolet Monte Carlo home in 4th place during the weekend's" The Masters" at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, WI. On Tuesday night in UDTRA action in Dennison, IA, Mars posted yet another Top-5 finish crossing the stripe in 5th place as the checkered flag fell to keep the talented Wisconsin competitor in 4th place in his trek to the national title, just 122 points out of first-place in the national rankings.
So far Jimmy Mars Racing has garnered 14 top-ten UDTRA runs in just the first 17 of the 40 slated events on the UDTRA tour. Even more impressive are Mars' 11 top-five runs and 1 win with over half the sanction's season remaining. Mars is a former Rookie of the Year winner on the NASCAR RE/MAX Challenge Series. Mars is a former champion of the 1997 Dream race at Eldora Speedway which yielded a career-high payday of $100,000 while also capturing titles at the Batesville (AR) Speedway's 2000"Topless 100" and the 1996"USA Nationals" (Cedar Lake Speedway). Mars has also charted high-profile national wins at both Bristol Motor Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway.
This weekend's schedule on the UDTRA campaign will see Jimmy Mars appearing in UDTRA action competition at Greenwood, NE (Friday & Saturday, June 28-29). Next week's busy UDTRA schedule for Jimmy Mars racing includes stops at Muskingum County Speedway (Zanesville, OH-July 3rd); Raceway 7 (Conneaut, OH-July 5th); and West Virginia Motor Speedway (Parkersburg, WV-July 6th). On July 4th Mars also hopes to compete in a holiday Renegade DirtCar sanctioned event at Stateline Speedway in Jamestown, NY.
Mars campaigns a MasterSbilt Race Car with backing from T.L. Sinz Plumbing, Weld Wheels and Pro-Power Engines. Throughout the season Jimmy Mars Racing offers opportunities for marketing and promotional partnerships in relation to the team's National Television appearances on the SPEED Channel with the National Championship efforts on the UDTRA circuit.
