(May 8, 2002-- Elk Mound, WI) With five straight top-five finishes in UDTRA PRO DirtCar Series action, Jimmy Mars and Mars Racing have positioned themselves as true championship contenders in the 2002 season.
Already a win this season, Mars has"mastered" his MasterSbilt Monte Carlo around the competition to boost the Wisconsin into third place in the season long battle for the UDTRA championship crown. Mars put forth another stellar run at Thunder Valley Speedway (April 26, 2002) by taking the checkered flag in 4th place. Jimmy's latest outing with the UDTRA series came at Scenic Raceway (May 4, 2002) where Mars finished 4th along with winning the fourth heat race. Mars' fourth place finish will be televised on May 23rd on the Speed Channel.
Jimmy Mars registered his 11th top five finish of the season at Atomic Motor Speedway this past weekend in the $5, 000 to win Knox-Tenn Rental 50 by finishing 3rd. This marks Jimmy's second straight third place finish at Atomic Motor Speedway in 2002.
Up next for Mars Racing will be the MACS/Renegade double hitter at Florence Speedway in Union, KY. Following the two day event in Kentucky, Mars Racing will be making the UDTRA Midwestern swing starting at Kankakee Speedway (May 13), then on to West Liberty Speedway (May 15), followed by two events at Eagle Raceway (May 17-18), and rounding out the week at Dakota State Fairgrounds (May 20).
So far in 2002, Jimmy has 11 top-five and 14 top-ten finishes in 21 feature starts along with three fast qualifier awards and two pole positions.
