Jimmie Johnson's Points Chase Goes to Last Race

Cedar Rapids, IA - Jimmie Johnson ran a strong race in the "ACDelco Rapidfire 300" at Hawkeye Downs Speedway to come home in 4th place. Johnson started the #44 Pennzoil Monte Carlo in 4th place and would be a factor the whole night. Johnson went on to seize his 10th top-5 finish of the year in the 19th event on the American Speed Association (ASA) ACDelco Challenge Series schedule, with 1 event remaining.

Johnson's 4th place finish kept him in the points battle heading to Orange County Speedway in two weeks. Johnson is now 84 points behind leader Tim Sauter. Johnson maintains 3rd place in the ASA ACDelco Challenge Series National Point standings, with points totaling 3,008 for the year.

"This car was really strong. I feel had there been more laps we could've pulled off a win, but it was a good run. We lost a little ground to the leaders, but I'm very positive about going to Orange County. This Pennzoil team does a great job each week and I want to give them another win," Johnson said.

Randy Herzog, co-owner of Herzog Motorsports, was pleased with Johnson's run. "Jimmie ran one of this season's best races tonight. He had to work his way up through the field a couple times, but managed to pull out another top-5. The championship is still going to be decided in a couple weeks and we plan on having the #44 Pennzoil Monte Carlo up front to be a main contender."

Herzog Motorsports is a successful, championship-winning race team. Based in Los Angeles, California, St. Joseph, Missouri, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Herzog Motorsports fields two teams on the 1999 ASA ACDelco Challenge Series.

Pennzoil motor oils are manufactured by Pennzoil-Quaker State Company, a leading automotive consumer products company. Pennzoil-Quaker State Company markets premium quality lubricants and some 1,300 other car care products, and is the parent company of Jiffy Lube International, Inc., the world's largest franchiser of fast oil change centers.

Johnson and the #44 Pennzoil Chevrolet team have a week off to prepare for the season finale at Orange County Speedway on Saturday, October 2nd. "The North Carolina Sweet Potato 400" will be broadcast live on TNN Motorsports beginning at 1pm EST.
