Marne, MI - Jimmie Johnson suffered an on-track incident this weekend at Berlin Raceway's "Build-A-Mold 300" to finish in 27th place. Johnson would be involved in an accident on the first lap of the race that would damage the #44 Pennzoil Chevrolet. The team, led by top crew chief Howie Lettow, would repair the injured car within 50 laps and make it back on to the track to complete the remainder of the race in the 15th event of the 1999 ASA ACDelco Challenge Series season.

Johnson's 27th-place finish garnered him 79 points for the race resulting in a season total of 2,309 points. Johnson still continues to be a top-5 contender in the ASA ACDelco Challenge Series National Point standings, currently 4th, 178 points behind the leader.

"This was a very unfortunate deal. I have never had an accident like this the past two seasons with Herzog Motorsports. I'm just glad we were able to go back out there and complete the race, picking up as many points as I could. That's just a compliment to this team and Howie. We'll pick up and move on. We have a weekend off and go to Milwaukee where I know we will run up front," Johnson said.

Herzog Motorsports co-owner Randy Herzog reflected on the unfortunate weekend by saying, "It's definitely upsetting for this to have happened, but the team was able to fix Jimmie's car quickly and get him back out there to complete as many laps as he could. We'll keep going and bounce back, but it's a disappointment."

Herzog Motorsports is a successful, championship-winning race team. Based in Los Angeles, California, St. Joseph, Missouri, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Herzog Motorsports fields two teams on the 1999 ASA ACDelco Challenge Series.

Johnson and the #44 Pennzoil Chevrolet team have a week off and return to action when the ASA ACDelco Challenge Series heads to the Milwaukee Mile on Sunday, August 29th for the running of the "Time Warner Cable 200." The event will be broadcast live on TNN Motorsports beginning at 2 p.m. EDT.
