ASA Race #4 (Event 4 of 20) May 17, 1997 "Jennerstown 300"

Finished: 20th (running - 297 laps complete) Started: 4th (100.465 mph)

Being in the wrong place at the wrong time can really hurt a stock car driver, and it has biten ASA legend Bob Sennker in the last two ASA races. In Florida, Bob was swpet up in someone eles's wreck, it happened again this weekend at Jennerstown. Bob had another great qualifuing run putting the JR Automation/Lane Automotive/Mechanix Wear Ford Thunderbird fourth for the 11th ASA to be run at Jennerstown (PA) Speedway. At the start of the race, Bob gets into a groove and radio's the crew the car "feels really good" at lap 15, under the first caution. He also comments the leaders are "really running hard", Bob wanting to pace himself doesn't heed to the hard chargers behind him. Bob falls back to 7th place by lap 50, the car is now loose but he says he can live with it. Under the 3rd caution at lap 58, Bob pits for right side tires and gas, he goes back onto the track running in 25th position, the green flag waves at lap 65. Another quick caution flies at lap 75, Bob dives into the pits for fresh left isde rubber and gas, he is now running 22nd. The race goes back to green at lap 80, at lap 85 Bob got caught up in a wreck in turn 3, that bent some front suspension parts and left the left rear tire flat, which also bent the rim. Bob would lose two laps in the process, he lost one by pitting before the pace car picked up the field, then another one in the pits when the crew had trouble getting the rear flat tire off, as the rim was bent giving the crew problems. Bob would just ride it out for the rest of the afternoon coming home in 20th place, even though the front suspension was bent, Bob was one of the quickest cars on the track. "We felt we had a pretty good car, things just didn't work out," Senneker said. "We tore up the suspension in the front and rear when we got tangled up in that mess in turn three and the car drove like a truck after that. We felt like we could compete, but sometimes that's the way racing goes. ***************************************************************************** The ASA AC Delco Challenge Series will run a doubleheader in Michigan on June 6-7, visiting Tri-City Speedway in Auburn, Michigan on Friday, June 6 and Berlin Raceway on Saturday, June 7.
