ISCARS ANNOUNCES EVENT AT MUSIC CITY MOTORPLEX
DAYTONA BEACH, FL (April 7, 2005) -- ISCARS announces the first of five planned events for 2005. Music City Motorplex in Nashville, TN will host the International Sport Compact Auto Racing Series on October 8th.
Music City Motorplex is no stranger to these sport compact race teams. The historic track has hosted twelve events since 1977. Two-time Daytona 500 winner, Michael Waltrip is among the notables that have made it to victory lane along with Phil Parsons, Larry Caudill, Dean Combs, Johnny Chapman, and modified standout Dave Stacy.
Formerly known as the Nashville Speedway, the track is rich in history having been a regular host to NASCAR's elite and regional divisions for many years.
Located at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds Fairgrounds, the speedway has long been among the main attractions for those visiting the Music City and offered a perfect match for stock car and country music celebrities. From Marty Robbins to Darrell Waltrip and Sterling Marlin to Brooks and Dunn, the speedway has long stood as a catalyst to great racing and memories of historic proportion.
The speedway has recently returned the limelight as a result of the involvement of Joe Mattioli, whose family founded Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania. He ran Pocono as general manager between 1978 through 1994. He also operates South Boston Speedway in Virginia.
On hosting ISCARS later this year, Mattioli states, "This series has tremendous history and tradition and has been the launching pad for many drivers and provides the opportunity to show case both American and international manufacturers. We are sure that the 150 lap event here in Nashville will be a real crowd pleaser."
"Joe Mattioli has been a good friend to me and this series, and I admire his ability to promote successful events," states Randy Claypoole, President/CEO of ISCARS. "We are thrilled that ISCARS has been invited to compete at this exciting 5/8 mile, high-bank oval."
