(Feb. 4) - It took less than one week for many of the top stock car racers in the Maritimes to sign up for a 12- race pro stock race car series that will be on the track this May. Car number and licence application forms were distributed by Scotia Speedworld, who will operate the new series. Racers will see guaranteed race purses and a $50,000 point fund. Race fans will see door handle-to-door handle excitement by the best racers in the Maritimes. "We were pleasantly surprised with how quickly the fellows got their application forms back to us," said Basil Gordon, General Manager of Scotia Speedworld. "We have felt very strongly since last fall this type of thing needs to happen to help the regional level of pro stock racing. The fact they responded so quickly is evidence we were correct." The series has confirmed races at Scotia Speedworld in Halifax, N.S., Riverside Speedway in Antigonish, N.S.; Raceway Park in Oyster Bed Bridge, P.E.I., and Centre For Speed in Shediac, N.B. A detailed schedule will be announced once facility negotiations are finalized. <pre> CAR DRIVER 00 *Scott Fraser, Shubenacadie, NS 02 Mike MacKenzie, Dartmouth, NS 1 Dan Eddy, Dartmouth, NS 8 Leo Cochrane, Williamswood, NS 9 Stephen Brown, Halifax, NS 11 Marty Prevost, Fall River, NS 15 Scott Alexander, Dartmouth, NS 17 Dave Potter, Coldbrook, NS 23 Lonnie Sommerville, Fredericton, NB 25 Tim MacKay, Sackville, NS 49 Cy Harvey, Enfield, NS 50 Mike Riley, Halifax, NS 51 Vance Hanes, Kennetcook, NS 67 Gordie Ryan, Dartmouth, NS 71 Dan MacKay, Halifax, NS 76 Barry Hubley, Tantallon, NS 89 Donald Chisholm, Antigonish, NS 94 Randy Jollimore, Halifax, NS 97 John Flemming, Halifax, NS *The series is endorsed by Scott Fraser, who is planning to compete on a limited basis, subject to the 2001 ASA schedule.
