IPSC DRIVERS GUARANTEED SPOTS IN MAJOR RACING EVENT

Halifax, NS (May 4, 1999) - Officials of the International Pro Stock Challenge (IPSC) have announced that four series competitors will be guaranteed starting spots in the "Biggest Short Track Race in North America" - the July 4th True Value 250 at Oxford, event number three of the six-race 1999 IPSC schedule. "The top four IPSC competitors in the point standings after the first two races who haven't already qualified for one of the first 36 starting spots will be granted provisional starting spots," said Randy Black, IPSC Competition Director. "With 101 cars in the pit area last year trying to make the field, that is a huge advantage for our drivers." By saying the "top four" that ensures the four teams highest in points after the June 26th Forbes Chev. Olds. 150 at Scotia Speedworld are guaranteed a starting spot in the prestigious race which pays as much as $50,000 (U.S.) to the winner. However, should the top four already have made the race through their finishing spots in the Motor Mart Heat Races, the four IPSC series provisionals will trickle down through the standings. "Potentially, it could mean guys running 15th or further in the points could get the provisionals," Black said. "While it is an IPSC event, the True Value 250 will keep its traditional qualifying format with the teams having to race to make the show." The remaining five IPSC events on the slate for 1999 will see a format where the drivers will run Snap-on Tools Time Trials to determine how they start the heat races. Each driver will get two timed laps, using new state-of-the-art electronic timing equipment, with their fastest lap counting. The 10 quickest drivers are automatically transferred to the feature race with guaranteed starting spots in the first 10. Actual starting order of the top 10 will be determined by the finishing order of the Motor Mart Dash for Cash. The order of the balance of the starting grid will be set by the finishing order of the Motor Mart Heat Races. "We're fortunate to be affiliated with the caliber of sponsors we have in our first full year," said Black. "Their participation has enabled us to make this series even better than we had originally anticipated. We're already looking ahead to next year and possible expansion." Companies on board with the 1999 International Pro Stock Challenge include: Atlantic Tractors, Coca-Cola, Copenhagen Inc., FasTrack Promotions, Forbes Chev. Olds., Grisdale Racing Products, Howe Racing Enterprises, Derek Lynch Racing, McCreary Racing Tires, Motor Mart, New England Dodge Dealers, Snap-on Tools, and True Value Hardware Stores. The IPSC will launch their site on the World Wide Web on May 12th. The site adress is www.ipschallenge.com. Race dates are June 26th, July 24th and August 28th at Scotia Speedworld in Halifax, NS and May 22nd, July 4th and September 11th at Oxford Plains Speedway in Maine.
