(April 2, 2002) -- O'Reilly Auto Parts, one of the top-10 auto parts chains in the United States, has secured the entitlement sponsorship rights for the May 19 ASA Racing Series event at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, IA. The event will be officially known as the O'Reilly Auto Parts 300 presented by STP.
As the event title sponsor, O'Reilly Auto Parts will be a driving force behind a major pre-event promotional campaign for the May 19th race. That campaign will encompass all of the major markets in Iowa and include advance ticket sales through retail outle ts, radio advertising and various on-site promotional activities intended to further enhance product sales.
"ASA is a great series that reaches our customer base," O'Reilly Auto Parts Retail Marketing Manager for Motorsports and Promotions Kevin Greven said. "The series has a strong following that continues to grow. It brings excellent name recognition in motors ports and beyond. ASA will bridge the gap between grass roots racing and a national level series. I'm sure we have a good program with STP and ourselves for Iowa. That market is still growing for us as its not completely new, but we have been there for abo ut three years."
O'Reilly Auto Parts, founded in 1957, today has 901 stores in Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Texas and Louisiana. They are served by five distribution centers in Springfield, MO; Kansas City, MO; Oklahoma City, OK; Houston, TX; and Des Moines, IA. Approximately 11,000 team members are employed in the stores, offices and distribution centers.
O'Reilly Auto Parts has established a strong involvement in motorsports including NASCAR, NHRA, World of Outlaws and others. O'Reilly is currently the title sponsor for 16 different racing series.
"Bringing O'Reilly Auto Parts into the 2002 ASA Racing Series is a great plus," said ASA Marketing Manager Greg Carr. "I fully expect our collective efforts with this event to be successful. O'Reilly Auto Parts has established a positive reputation with it s large customer base and I'm certain this event will enhance that further in the Iowa market and nationally."
The O'Reilly Auto Parts 300 presented by STP will be the fifth event of the 2002 ASA Racing Series season. The race will take the green flag at 1 p.m. (Central) and will be telecast live on TNN (The National Network).
