The Indianapolis Speedrome's 22nd Annual Triple-8 Night finally crowned its winners after last week's rain out. Jeff Shackelford, Bill Tunny, Jr., and Steve Frost each took one of the three 50-lap runs for the Red Line Graphic Late Models. Bike races for the Pepsi Kids, Chuck's Race Car Parts Outlaw Stocks, Sunshine Cafe Roadrunners and Speedrome Hornets sent the fans home exhausted after a busy night of action.

The first of three fifty-lap challenges was a cakewalk for Jeff Shackelford. The right-turn only, clockwise oval chase was no problem for the "Shack Attack" after he took control on Lap 6 and never looked back. Bruce Tunny was a distant second followed by Jeff Hizer, division points leader R.J. Norton, Jr. and Steve Frost. Fast qualifier Bobby Douthitt breifly challenged Shackelford until sidelined by fuel pick-up problems.

The second feature saw Bill Tunny, Jr. in the Winner's Circle surviving contact with second place R.J. Norton, Jr. and spinning. Track officials re-instated Tunny with a warning to Norton and the race finished with tunny and Norton ahead of Hutchison Signs Trophy dash winner Doug Greig, Douthitt and Rich Fenwick.

The fifty-lap Figure-8 was Steve Frost's chance to finally get back into Victory Lane. Frost led all but the first four laps and kept the speed on to leave the field far behind. Bruce Tunny led the scrapping pack that was battling for second with Rodney Sizemore, Greig and Shackelford hot on his heels. It was Frost's first Figure-8 win of the season and was a welcome sight to a struggling team.

Jimmy kirby proved once again that there's nothing the Speedrome can throw at him that he can't handle. The Chuck's Race Car Parts Outlaw Stocks raced their 25-lap oval feature clockwise with a few regulars electing to sit the challenging night out. Kirby took control from Chris Stewart on Lap 14 and said "good-bye" with only points leader and fast qualifier Kerry Wright able to keep him in sight. Herb Carson, Jack Smith and Brian Cantor followed. Rookies Ed Brickley and Jimmy Anderson split the heat races.

Michael Carson scored his first Sunshine Cafe Roadrunner feaure win in the 20-lap "A" main over Mark Eads, Jr. and John Collins. Robert Perkins snared the 10-Lap "B" main over Butch Johnson. Mike McDougalle, Diane Bohnenkamp, Carson and Barry Coy were winners in the preliminaries.

Mike Gross came through a wild, buzzing hive of Speedrome Hornets to top the 20-Lap main for the four-cylinder crowd. Teammate and best bud Rob Hurt chased Gross to the line followed by Tim L. Smith, early leader Dave Gabert and Tim Harding. Scott Camhi, Hurt and Gross took home heat race trophies as well.
