Sunday, June 3 at the Indianapolis Speedrome - It was a night of surprises and shockers for Speedrome fans at Crazy Mickey's Night at the Races.
The surprises started early in the 25-Lap Oval feature for the Chuck's Race Car Parts Stocks. Mike Adams jumped out to a commanding lead in a car held to gether by duct tape after damage from the previous race.
Adams spun unassisted rounding Turn 4 while heading for the white flag. Larry Hahn capitalized on Adams error and won making 3 25-lappers in a row for the Sophomore driver up from the Roadrunner division.
Later in the evening Scott Settles stepped up a class and gave the field a 600 pound weight advantage but still took the 15-Lap Stock Figure-8.
In the Sunshine Cafe Roadrunners where Hahn, Adams and Settles all started their racing careers Randy Allen and Scott Camhi claimed feature wins. The evening's host, "Crazy" Mickey Levy of Indianapolis' 21st Century Paging & Wireless, thrilled the audience with the "World's Largest Strait Jacket Escape" assisted by Indiana's own Bill Shirk.
The canvas, leather and steel failed to stymie the 400+ Beeper King for his first-ever public performance.
The final shocker of the evening was Clayton Rhoton's return to his home track to win the 2001 Speedrome Bus Demolition Derby. Rhoton bested another Roadrunner graduate Paul Roth to take the honors. <pre> Results 6/3/2001
