With the end-of-season events coming up and championships on the line the racers at the Indianapolis Speedrome have to put their chips in the pot and play their hands. Some come up aces and some fold but either way its showdown.

Fred Bear, Jr. played his hand early in the 35-Lap Bryant's 76 Late Model and took the gold as he held off challenges from Bill and Bruce Tunny for his first figure-8 win of the year. Bear credited hard work from the crew and clean driving from the Tunny's for the win that kept him mathematically in the hunt for the 2001 championship. Rodney Sizemore and Wayne Arnold rounded out the Top five with a strong performance from Louisville's Artie B. Ware for sixth in his Speedrome Late Model debut.

R. J. Norton, Jr. had a mixed hand for the night with a win in the oval portion of the program but an early fold in the "8". Norton took the roundy-round over George Sutton, the Tunny's and Sizemore.

Oza Hoosier knows more about billiards than baccarat but he put the field in the corner pocket dominating the 25-Lap oval feature for the Chuck's Race Car Parts Stocks with rookie Chris Shrum I trying to chase him down. Hard-working Gary Wray, the All-American Bill Montag and points leader Speedy Teepe came home about a half-lap behind.

Oza's partner Kerry Wright captured the Sunshine Cafe Roadrunner "A" feature to put himself atop the points standings over Barry White and Casey Victery. Steve Barton, Barry Coy, Brian Canter and White finished the tops spots. The "B" main went to Steve Still for his first of the year but the racer to beat was Scott Cothron who was caught up in someone else's problem but recovered to finish fourth. Steve Todd snagged his second feature in the Yardarm Bomber Figure-8's.

Racing continues Friday night with the return of the Modifieds, Legend Cars, Roadrunners, Bomber Figure-8 and Bandoleros and a special appearance by the Chuck's Race Car Parts Stocks for the Kenny's Auto Sales twin 25's leading to Saturday night's Kenny's Auto Sales 50-Lap Stock challenge. Late Models top Saturday's card with a 50-lap figure-8 and the Roadrunners are also in.
